Range Wars
Written about 1979 R. Bain

There’s a brand new breed of farmer
He’s part philosopher and businessman to boot
He’s got an illegal crop but he ain’t gonna stop
Because he’s making such big time loot

And Jimmy ripped it off from Harry
Sold it all to Jerry
Who fronted it to Ted and Little Bill
But somehow Harry caught wind
Of the folks who did him in
Now when he shoots you know he’s going to shoot to kill

Well there’s a range war
Going on
In the hills, on the plains and in town
It’s the same old west
They said was the best
There’s still lots of desperados lurkin’ round
Just watch them drive their pick up trucks across the town

Well Harry hunted down Jimmy
He said “You better gimme. All of my reefer back.”
He held a gun to Jimmy’s head and said, “Partner you’re dead.
Now don’t try nuthin’ cuz my boys are out back.”

Well there’s a range war
Going on............

So Harry got back all of his harvest
And Jimmy vanished to somewhere out East
And when Harry sold it all he had a party in the fall
They cooked a steer and bought some beer—they had a feast.
And right in the middle of the party
Harry jumped up on his truck to make a toast
He said, “Here’s to the best stuff that’s ever been grown.”
And then the crowd got drunk and so did the host.

Well there’s a range war
Going on............
